Under technical guidance, the Assistant Biomedical Equipment Technician (ABMET) provides basic patient care technical support to Nursing Units, Clinics, Laboratories, and Home Healthcare in an academic medical center. Inspect and repairs Low and Medium Risk medical devices with minimal oversight and Critical Risk medical devices with direct oversight in conjunction with the Clinical Technology & Biomedical Engineering Medical Equipment Management Plan. Complete all given assignments within the parameters of the department performance standards.

Essential Functions
Complies with Department Technician Orientation & Training Competency Program and actively participates
in continuous education and training.
Demonstrates acceptance of patients, families, visitors, and co-workers regardless of race, gender, disease process, life-style, religious or cultural beliefs, or treatment.
Documents all scheduled and unscheduled work performed and records technical observations in the CT&BE inventory and maintenance database in conjunction with the Environment of Care performance standard and quality improvement goals.
Follows all SH&C/LPCH safety guidelines and infection control policies and procedures for self, patients, visitors, and employees.
Handles hospital and department computer workstations, software packages, websites, and files with appropriate care and respects all copyrighted material.
Maintains confidentiality with regard to hospital business and HIPAA compliance. Periodically provides weekend, holiday, and off-shift coverage, including call-back emergency coverage. May be required to service equipment on any shift if delays would adversely affect patient care.
Primary responsibility is to provide technical support in handling specific logistical activities in defined support areas. The ABMET functions as a team member within a workgroup.
Provides technical bedside support for routine and STAT/emergency trouble calls while consistently demonstrating the ability to assess priorities and escalate more difficult tasks to properly trained staff.

Minimum Qualifications
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.

Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent
Experience: Basic knowledge of electrical theory and safety related procedures in a hospital environment. A successful internship in a hospital biomedical department will meet this requirement.
Experience: Three (3) years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience
